Three Wheeled Buggies
Whether you're looking for a buggy jog with or just a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.
If you're looking for a smooth ride with your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are prone, however to punctures. Be prepared with a repair set.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in a steep decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more flexible and simple to drive and look elegant.

The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with bumpy and uneven pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on an infant and a toddler and found it to be extremely durable. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it feels sturdy to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally, have built-in suspension. It was extremely comfortable for my children.
Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others allow the parent to be facing one.
An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a single from birth, and then expands to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4. It includes a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. Storage options are also great with a large storage basket and zip pockets on the hood, and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with a larger diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that assist you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you crash into the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.
Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which means they can handle a variety of terrains and are much more flexible than 4-wheeler. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures and you'll need to have an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are among our top 3-wheelers. Both of these buggies come with larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and are able to easily move up and down kerbs. They also have suspensions that according to Kath "smooths out bumps very effectively".
The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and make it difficult to get through narrow spaces. This can be an issue especially if you're using it to a jogger or to maneuver through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. Most models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.
Easy to manoeuvre
One of the main benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver, especially with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
3 wheeler pushchair tested a 3 wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough ground with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback of this great mobility is that the 3 wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it will be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider when you live in a metropolitan area. If this is the case then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better option for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars are the ideal way to protect your child from scrapes and bumps when out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install and will allow your child to feel safe and secure out and out and about.
It is designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar is a soft and cushioned surface that offers a comfortable place for your child to hold on to when walking. The robust construction and durable design will ensure that your child will be comfortable strolling around the town without worrying about falling or leaning forward.
The sling seat made of fabric sits comfortably inside the frame rather than sitting on top like modular seats. It provides the lower centre of gravity at the ideal height for your newborn and also providing great weight distribution for a simple kerb pop (it takes less effort to push a buggy up and over the curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was great on grass and cobbles. It's also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres as well as a lockable swivel wheel.
This bumper bar will make heads turn wherever it's utilized. It has a sophisticated and stylish design. It's available in a variety of finishes and colors to match your style. It has a simple, quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to install and remove the bumper bar when needed. The bumper bar is easy to clean as it is constructed of durable materials. This makes it an excellent option for families that want an elegant and safe accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A 3-wheel buggy offers the most agility and performance when driving off road. With the perfect geometry and engineering, as well as weight distribution this style of buggy can turn on a dime and be a breeze to steer using just one hand; and all Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous global stability standards and tests as buggies with 4 wheels.
The Sport's clever design places the sling seat made of fabric inside the frame, instead of over it like modular seats. This allows it to have a lower center of gravity which means it's easier to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you will not need to exert much effort to push the buggy's front end over the curb), and offers greater stability and balance. With the massive rear wheels measuring 16 inches and lockable swivel front wheels and tyres with air that require only occasional pumping, you get an unhurried ride on rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog too.
As the only all-terrain pushchair in our collection that comes with a parent-facing seat that can also take a car seat or carrycot, you can future proof your family and take pleasure in every adventure starting at day's end and for years to come - all within the footprint of one buggy!
And that's not the only reason you should love this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath loved how spacious it is too. There's a huge easy-to-access basket that's surprisingly roomy for a buggy this small as well as an excellent zip-up pouch on the rear of the seat and even two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to keep your phone and keys.
